Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field
Tapestry Charter School is an Independent school that participates in a number of track meets throughout Western New York against local high schools. The past three years, Tapestry has had sectional champions in the long jump, triple jump, 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay. The girl's 4x100m relay team were state champions in 2015 and 2016. In 2016, Nia Stevens became the first ever individual state champion at Tapestry.
About the Coach
Dan Tryon has been coaching track and field for the past 15 years and has spent the last four years as Head Track and Field coach at Tapestry. Coach Tryon has been blessed to work with some of the best track athletes in Western New York. While coaching at Amherst High School three girl’s sectional records were broken including; 100m, 200m, and the 4x400m relay.
Kevin Dare Invitational - January 7th, 2017
Penn State University is proud to host the annual Kevin Dare High School Invitational,
which has become one of the top high school competitions of the indoor season.
Tapestry results -
Maryam Akaic - placed 18th out of 36 in the shot put.
Taylor Hunter - placed 13th out of 60 in the 60-meter.
Janai Murray – placed 32nd out of 45 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Nevaeh Parker (7th Grade) – placed 25th out of 59 in the 55 meter.
Nia Stevens – placed 5th out of 60 in the 200-meter
Relay team members - Kim Bostic, Taylor Hunter, Mirielle Ngoopos (substituting for Nevaeh Parker who was injured in an earlier race) and Nia Stevens - placed 5th out of 28 teams in the 4 x 200 meter relay, recording the fastest time of any team in WNY by over a second and a half. The same team ran the 4 x 400 meter relay and finished 11th out 20 teams.
