COVID-19 (Coronavirus)
May 1, 2020
Dear Tapestry Families,
Today, Governor Cuomo has announced that all schools across New York State will remain closed for the remainder of this school year. A decision on allowing ‘in-school’ instruction for summer school, as well as summer camp operations will be made by the end of May.
It is important that I let all of you know that the Compass Leadership Team has been planning for multiple scenarios over the last several weeks, and given this news today, we are prepared to move forward slowly and methodically addressing the many questions that this announcement raises from all our valued school community stakeholders, but especially our teachers and students and their families.
Governor Cuomo listed a number of factors to be considered before re-opening schools in the fall and its nice to know that his list seems to mirror our own in many ways— How will TCS monitor the spread of COVID-19? How will TCS reinforce student safety? What will extra-curricular activities at TCS look like? What protocols and processes must change for our TCS student population? How might this affect our academic calendar? Among many others…
With every plan and every decision we make, we will always take into consideration the health and safety of our staff and students.
More information will be on its way to you as we work to ensure that our plans for Tapestry for the remainder of this school year and our plans for next fall are thoughtful and consider the voice of all in our school community and follow the guidance from the New York State Education Department.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly with any questions or concerns.
We’re all in this together and we will continue to rise up, support each other and deflect whatever this virus throws our way.
We are crew.
Thank you,
Eric Klapper
Executive Director
