Nancy Burns joined the Tapestry Charter School Team in 2009 as the high school nurse. She received her BSN from D’Youville College in 1984 and is fortunate to have worked in many areas of nursing. Her experience includes General Medical/Surgical Care, Critical Care, Community Health, Triage Nurse for Admissions, Director of Admissions Department, Discharge Planning & Utilization Review, Morbidity & Mortality Predictions for critically ill patients, and Case Manager for Cardiac Team. In her role as the school nurse Ms. Burns:
- Provides direct care to students: care for injuries and acute illnesses for all students and long-term management of students with special health care needs.
- Promotes a healthy school environment by monitoring immunizations, ensuring appropriate exclusion for infectious diseases, mandated state reporting, participate in plan for prevention and management of bullying, disaster, and terrorism events.
- Promotes health by providing health information to individual and groups of students through health education classes.
- Acts as a liaison between school personnel, family, health care professionals, and the community.
